ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE AUDITING

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES:

Environmental performance of enterprises and organizations reflects implementation environmental impact assessment, EMP, and environmental monitoring programs and their results, environmental management status, operating permits, results of environmental protection work, implementation of environmental reports of an organization. Environmental performance auditing assesses environmental performance to minimize potential environmental impacts, to run business more efficiently and effectively, and to determine mitigation and improvement actions.

 

AUDITING CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:

An environmental performance audit provides an independent professional assessment to the areas of the performances, and develops recommendations which shall be submitted to the project implementor. The areas of performance include:

  1. Any progress in implementation of DEIA based environmental management plan and environmental monitoring program;
  2. Whether the use of natural resources is planned in a way that would have minimal negative impact on the environment and human health;
  3. Whether measures are being taken to prevent, avoid, reduce and eliminate potential negative impacts on the environment, society and the health of residents during the implementation of the project;
  4. Whether the project activities are transparent, open and accountable for the state, local government and other relevant organizations, and ensure multi-stakeholder participation and the legitimate interests of the parties;
  5. Whether additional technical and technological measures are being taken to reduce and eliminate the impact;

  • Neutralization;
  • Demolition;
  • Detoxification;
  • Refreshment;
  • Burial;
  • Incineration;
  • Emissions;
  • Distillation;
  • Installation of additional equipment;
  1. Any measures related to management, organization, internal procedures, training, advocacy, news, reporting, information, and knowledge and capacity building
  2. Whether work is being done to meet the requirements of the environmental management system standards;
  • Provide employees with environmental awareness and information;
  • Train them for assessing risks and taking emergency responses.
  1. Whether budgets on mitigation and elimination actions measures are being allocated;
  • Technical and biological rehabilitation;
  • Types, sizes and sources of solid and liquid wastes;
  • Waste collection, storage, transportation, processing, treatment, recycling, reuse, disposal, and burial technology;
  • Additional technical and management measures for hazardous waste management;
  • Fire prevention measures;
  • Potential hazard and accident prevention measures;
  • Handling of hazardous and toxic chemicals and first aid;
  • Occupational health and safety actions;
  • Resettlement and relocation of the population affected by project;
  • Measures to protect historical and cultural heritages.
  1. Whether monitoring programmes for water, soil and air pollution and any changes in the environment have been implemented during the project phases;
  • Monitoring time;

  • Consolidation and reporting of test results;
  • Person responsible for program implementation;
